Camelford Vision

Between January 2021 and March 2022, Matt Baker was appointed by Camelford Town Council to set up a local place-shaping partnership team, develop a vision for Camelford and consult with the wider community to build confidence in future regeneration plans.

Working with key local stakeholders, Matt Baker established Agan Reskammel (Our Camelford), which has subsequently become a Community Interest Company and is made up of local volunteers.

After developing a vision with Agan Reskammel, Rise Associates consulted extensively with the local community – both online and via face-to-face interviews, focus groups and public meetings.

The vision was based around a place where everyone has a stake, and engagement activities made sure that every group was represented before the final vision was determined. For example, engagement sessions included targeted focus groups with teenagers in secondary schools and businesses.

The final report included 34 recommendations on interventions relating to food and drink, community, cycling, arts and crafts, heritage, health and well-being, among others.

Since the publication of the vision, the Town Council has made progress in looking to secure funding as well as developing new events and securing additional community facilities. The CIC has subsequently successfully bid for funds for a community market garden, created a business plan and attracted more volunteers to join. Most recently, it has secured £25K funding for feasibility work to establish a new community hub in Camelford.
